Inspire-09 National Scientific Meeting

Showcasing research in nanoscience relevant to Ireland’s smart economy

Monday, November 30th –Tuesday, December 1st

The Integrated National Science Platform for Ireland (Inspire) is pleased to announce the Inspire National Scientific Meeting in Nanoscience which is to be held on Monday - Tuesday November 30 - December 1st, 2009.  The meeting brings together researchers and provides an opportunity to showcase research activities spanning nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, and nanobiosciences, across eight academic Institutions.

Meeting Objectives

The objectives of the Inspire National Scientific Meeting are:

  • To communicate the value and opportunity of undertaking research in nanoscience
  • To portray the importance of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology to the future of Ireland’s Smart economy.
  • To showcase the world class infra-structure and research expertise in nanoscience that is available for future research and commercial collaborations. 

Oral Programme

 The oral programme consists of invited contributions from international industry and research laboratories; these key note presentations are complemented with presentations from researchers institutions supporting Inspire. The future opportunities for nanoscience in ICT and biotech sectors will be first presented by Seagate and Roche. Three interdisciplinary sessions will follow, each consisting of contributions in nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, and nanobiosciences.

Poster Programme & Call for Poster Abstracts

A poster programme will complement the oral programme. Postgraduate and graduate researchers are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations. All abstracts must comply with the proposed template. The template for abstracts is available from here.
All abstracts are to be saved in PDF format and emailed to nanoweek@tyndall.ie .

 The closing date for abstract submission is by Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

 The details for poster preparation are as follows.

  • The poster boards for Inspire -09 are 1m wide x 2m high from floor level, and will accommodate 1 x A0 poster in portrait format (or equivalents: 2 x A1, 4 x A2, etc).  
  • At the top of the poster, the title of the paper, names of authors and institution should be clearly displayed in large type.
  • A specific section outlining the potential value for Ireland must be included in each poster.  
  • Please include acknowledgements to funding agencies.
  • The poster boards will be fabric covered, and the posters should be attached using Velcro (suitable self-adhesive Velcro will be provided at the conference if required).

 Graduate workshop

Graduate students attending the Inspire National Scientific Meeting are invited, on first come first served basis, to attend a student workshop beginning at 15.00 on Monday November 30th 2009.

Registration for the Inspire National Scientific Meeting is now open and will close on Friday November 20th, 2009. The fee for registration is €40. Please register using the following website:
