Save the Dates Announcement Nano Week 30th November - 4th December 2009 Nanoweek is a week-long programme of National events to promote the world class nanoscience activity in Ireland and its contribution to Ireland's Knowledge Economy. Each events aims to answer the following questions:
The weeks activities are organised by the national academic and industry consortiums representing nanoscience and technology – INSPIRE and CCAN.
Provisional list of events and activities: 1. National Scientific Meeting – to be held at Tyndall National Institute , UCC, Cork INSPIRE will host a nanoscience conference bringing together the best nanoscience researchers from around Ireland and a group of high quality invited speakers from both industry and academia. The theme for the event will be convergence and the ability of Ireland to bring together researchers to solve “grand challenges”. There will be a strong focus on research that has relevance for solving both the near term and long term problems of different industry sectors. 2. University research to economic value – changing Ireland through research. To be held at the Science Gallery, TCD, Dublin. A workshop focussed on innovation to economic impact will be hosted at the SG. This workshop will bring together successful entrepreneurs who will tell their story of creating new business, leading nanoscience academic researchers who have developed companies or licensed IP and the venture capital community who have supported successful nano start-ups. The workshop will focus on the question of how innovation can drive economic value. 3. Industry / Policy / Academic Meeting – to be held at the Science Gallery, TCD, Dublin This meeting will bring together all key stakeholders – government (policy, funding and commercialisation), industry and academia – in a full-day event. The event is focussed on connecting the dots from nanoscience to nanotechnology, from academia to industry, from agency to agency, consortia to consortia, in representing a unified and coherent nano-ecosystem in Ireland. It will highlight that nanotechnology is a critical vector in establishing Ireland as a knowledge economy. 4. A walk in the nanoworld – CRANN CRANN will open up their nanoscience institute for tours for the general public over the course of the week. The goal will be to explain how scientific research works in practise and to demonstrate the industry partnerships. 5. The nanoexperience visiting schools – National Programme. An outreach activity to Schools nationally will occur over the course of the week with nanoscience researchers from all INSPIRE institutional partners visiting schools in Limerick, Galway, Cork and Dublin.
